Italian Lemonade

What do you do on a lazy Saturday morning when it is too early to tap into the beer supply?  Perhaps I should let Mike fill you in on the details:

I was all for it for there I am hopelessly infatuated with lemons.  I heart lemon pastries, cakes, cookies and goodies.  I often heat up water, add some lemons and cayenne powder and call it good.

So, we ran to the store and bought about six lemons, a bunch of basil and returned home to try our hand at Italian Lemonade.

When it comes to summery drinks, I tend to avoid a lot of the traditional favorites.  I find that most tend to be awfully sweet and syrupy.  By creating our own lemonade, we are able to tweak the simple syrup and lemon juice ratio a bit to give it a bit more citrus tang.

As far as a Saturday afternoon project, he couldn’t have had a better one.  There’s nothing like enjoying a cool, refreshing HOMEMADE drink on the patio with the chef!
